Beginning October 1, 2010, the South Carolina Department of Health and Human Services will transition the Healthy Connection Kids program to become a part of the existing State Children's Health Insurance Program (SCHIP). The beneficiaries currently enrolled in HCK will be automatically enrolled into the Managed Care Plan and others may choose another health plan in their area. More than 200,000 beneficiaries are not included in the
Healthy Connections Choices expansion and may continue to participate in traditional Fee-For-Service if they choose, without care coordination. These beneficiaries include dual eligibles, those in waiver programs, disabled children, TEFRA children, foster children and those residing in a residential care facility or CLTC facility. Please note that these beneficiaries are not necessarily precluded from joining a plan, but it will not be required.
Providers must check eligibility on all beneficiaries and this change will enhance some of their covered benefits. Providers must also be enrolled in each Managed Care Plan in order to see the patient.
